HEARING AID STYLES

Open Fit Mini Behind-The-Ear

  • Newest style
  • Most cosmetically appealing
  • Most comfortable
  • Best fit for a high frequency hearing loss
  • No occlusion (in the barrel sound)
  • Can not accommodate a lot of low frequency loss or a severe or profound loss

CIC / Completely-in-Canal   

  • Smallest size
  • Cosmetically appealing
  • No volume control available
  • Less effected by wind
  • Most susceptible to moisture and wax-related repairs
  • Cannot accommodate Dual Microphone technology
  • Most occlusion problems (in the barrel sound) 

ITC / In-the-Canal

  • Volume control optional
  • Manual program selection button optional
  • Easier for dexterity
  • Slightly more visible (depending on ear size and shape)
  • Can accommodate Dual Microphone Technology
  • Can accomodate venting to reduce occlusion (in the barrel sound)

ITE / In-The-Ear

  • Also known as a Full Shell
  • Easiest for dexterity
  • Volume control optional
  • Manual program selection button optional
  • Capable of more reserve power should hearing requirements change
  • Can easily accommodate Dual Microphone Technology
  • Can usually accomodate venting to reduce occlusion (in the barrel sound)

BTE / Behind-the-ear

  • Most wear-resistant to wax, humidity; best for small children
  • Volume control optional
  • Manual program selection button optional
  • Capable of most power and gain
  • Best choice to those with draining ears or who are prone to outer ear infections
  • Can accomodate venting to reduce occlusion (in the barrel sound)
