- No volume control available
- Less effected by wind
- Most susceptible to moisture and wax-related repairs
- Cannot accommodate Dual Microphone technology
- Most occlusion problems (in the barrel sound)
ITC / In-the-Canal
- Volume control optional
- Manual program selection button optional
- Easier for dexterity
- Slightly more visible (depending on ear size and shape)
- Can accommodate Dual Microphone Technology
- Can accomodate venting to reduce occlusion (in the barrel sound)
ITE / In-The-Ear
- Also known as a Full Shell
- Easiest for dexterity
- Volume control optional
- Manual program selection button optional
- Capable of more reserve power should hearing requirements change
- Can easily accommodate Dual Microphone Technology
- Can usually accomodate venting to reduce occlusion (in the barrel sound)
BTE / Behind-the-ear
- Most wear-resistant to wax, humidity; best for small children
- Volume control optional
- Manual program selection button optional
- Capable of most power and gain
- Best choice to those with draining ears or who are prone to outer ear infections
- Can accomodate venting to reduce occlusion (in the barrel sound)
